Identity & Access Comparison

Identity & Access Platforms

Compare identity standards, authentication controls, directory integration, lifecycle management, and deployment choices. Entra ID, Okta, and JumpCloud focus on workforce identity; Auth0 focuses on application and customer identity; Keycloak provides self-managed authentication and authorization. Features vary by plan, configuration, and version. Reviewed 9 October 2026.

Protocol support depends on the role: sign-in, application federation, directory integration, or provisioning. LDAP integration is not the same as operating an LDAP directory; SCIM direction and connector coverage vary.

Authentication & Access

Authentication & Access Controls

Controls differ in scope and licensing. Device trust requires supported devices or integrations. Custom authentication flows and Actions are not equivalent to a managed workforce Conditional Access engine.

Directory & Lifecycle

Directory & User Lifecycle Management

Workforce directories and application user stores have different roles. Provisioning and deprovisioning depend on the connector, sync direction, and plan; an SSO connection alone does not guarantee lifecycle automation.

Deployment Models

Deployment Model

Managed and self-hosted describe who operates the identity service. Hybrid refers to directory integration. Focus and SMB fit are qualitative assessments, not measured benchmarks; budget and operating skills affect suitability.

Security & Compliance

Security & Compliance Signals

Logging, governance, and privileged access may require separate subscriptions or setup. PIM, server/session PAM, and application roles solve different problems. Region selection does not guarantee exclusive local processing or customer compliance.
